My name’s Brian and I’m a 32-year-old artist from Cologne, Germany. I live in Amsterdam with my wife, our baby boy Adam, and our dog Homer. I studied Film and Literature but somehow ended up becoming obsessed with making art; something that I was able to start pursuing full-time four years ago
People often tell me that my art brightens up their day, and through this collaboration I’m able to do so quite literally. Little Sun is such a great initiative and I feel honoured to play a small part in bringing light to those who need it most.B.D. GRAFT
Please explain your thoughts and process behind the designs submitted
They’re two things that I love from the natural world: flowers and tropical birds. The drawings are celebrations of life.
Who are your biggest influences?
Artists who inspire me are Willem de Kooning, Tal R, Gerhard Richter, Henri Matisse, Ellsworth Kelly, Jean Arp, and Helen Frankenthaler. But nature, music, films and human interactions are big influences too.
Is there a message or thought you aim to provoke through your work?
I leave my art open to interpretation, but creating art is therapeutic for me, and transferring positive emotions to the viewer feels like a win-win.
What would your dream freelance job be and why?
To create new cover art for my top 100 albums. That would combine my love for music and art
What are you reading, watching or listening to at the moment?
I’m reading Haruki Murakami’s “Kafka on the Shore” and listening to a lot of Vegyn, Satie, and jazz at the moment. I’m watching Game of Thrones because my wife hadn’t seen it yet and I’m happy to re-watch it with her.
Any exciting plans for the future you would like to share?
I have a solo exhibition coming up in Paris this Spring which I’m really looking forward to.
